FAQ

When is the wrestling season?

The wrestling season is generally from mid-November through mid-February.  Optional post-season opportunities exist in February and March.

Registration typically opens around September/October and remains open until the roster is filled.

Where are practices and meets?

All practices are held in the wrestling room at Methacton High School.

Meets are held at wrestling clubs throughout the area.  Generally, meets are within a 30 minute radius of the Methacton High School.

When are practices?

Practices are two nights per week between Monday – Thursday and focuses on skill development, conditioning, and preparing for meets.  Practices start in mid November and run until the end of the season in February.  Kids are divided up into groups based on skill and size and the specific night of their practice will depend on the group that they are placed into.  The group assignments will be communicated after registration closes and prior to the start of the season.

When are meets?

Meets are scheduled most Saturdays between mid December through mid February.  The specific schedule will be published towards the beginning of each season.

What does my kid need to start wrestling?

To start wrestling, your child will need:

  • Wrestling shoes: These provide proper grip on the mat.  If you don’t have shoes for early season practices, your child may wear grip socks.  Street shoes may not be worn.
  • Headgear: Protects the ears and is required during meets.
  • Athletic wear: Tight-fitting clothing such as a T-shirt and shorts for practices.
  • Water bottle: To stay hydrated during practice.

Optional items include knee pads and a wrestling bag to carry gear. The club provides singlets for competition use.

The club may have a limited supply of available shoes that have been handed down from past wrestlers.  The available shoes tend to be smaller in size.  They are located in the bin in the practice room.

What are the hygiene requirements for wrestling?

Good hygiene is critical in wrestling to keep everyone safe and healthy. Here are the key requirements:

  • Shower after practice and meets: Wrestlers should shower immediately after each session to reduce the risk of skin infections.
  • Wash gear regularly: Wrestling gear, including singlets, practice clothes, and headgear, should be cleaned after every use.
  • Keep fingernails trimmed: This helps prevent accidental scratches during practice or competition.

By following these practices, we ensure a clean and healthy environment for all athletes!

Can I volunteer to coach or help organize the team?

Absolutely! We welcome and encourage parents and community members to volunteer as coaches. All of our coaches are dedicated volunteers who share a passion for teaching kids the fundamentals of wrestling and helping them grow both on and off the mat.

No prior wrestling or coaching experience is required—Whether you have a wrestling background or simply want to support the team, we’d love to have you on board.

Coaching is a great way to stay involved, bond with your child, and make a positive impact on our wrestling community. If you’re interested, please contact us  and we’ll provide more details about how to get started. Welcome to the team!

Can girls join the club?

Yes, absolutely! Girls are welcome and encouraged to join Methacton Warriors Wrestling Club. Wrestling is a fantastic sport for everyone, and we’re proud to share that our club has had girl state champions.

We provide the same training, opportunities, and support to all our wrestlers, and girls often compete against other girls in designated divisions when available. Wrestling is a great way to build confidence, strength, and resilience, and we’d love to have your child join us!

What age groups or weight classes are there?

At meets, kids are generally paired with others based on their age, weight, and skill level to ensure fair and enjoyable matches. This flexible approach helps beginners and more experienced wrestlers compete against appropriate opponents.

If your child decides to compete in tournaments, there are more structured weight and age classes. These classes are clearly defined by the tournament organizers and are designed to create balanced competition.

Our coaches will guide you and your child through the process and help them find the right matches, whether at meets or tournaments.

Are tournaments required?

No, tournaments are optional. While regular meets are a part of the wrestling season, tournaments offer an additional opportunity for kids to gain experience and compete at a higher level if they’re interested.

The club will communicate about recommended tournaments throughout the season, including details on registration and participation. Tournaments can be a great way for wrestlers to challenge themselves and grow, but the decision to participate is entirely up to you and your child.
